Here's what we did for minimalism today, instead of cleaning up our mail and switching to paperless billing (which we can't choose here in Korea):
STEP 1: go through the big -and irreparably broken- accordion file we call our "Life"
At this point, we can't close it because it's too full, nor could we close it if it was slimmer, since the latching mechanism is long-broken.
STEP 2: strew Life's papers about the room.
STEP 3: choose some papers that are more important than other papers. Throw out unimportant papers. Organize important papers into untidy piles.
STEP 4: put important papers into happy little homes in shiny new UNBROKEN accordion files.
STEP 5: admire the neatness of your new Life.
The orange one holds our temporary, Korean Life, and the blue file is what we grab if our apartment ever catches on fire and we have to escape with only 1 item. :)
Done!
It didn't take that long (30-45 mins), and the result was definitely worth it. A good feeling of accomplishment, despite today being a somewhat crappy day of feeling somewhat crappy.
And that's all I got today.

Hey, good job organizing your mail! It's too bad y'all don't have paperless billing in Korea, but it's good that you now have a clean (and unbroken!) system. :D Go go go!
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced our internet is done without paper; at any rate, they hooked it up for us, gave us the fee schedule and then we never heard about it again.
ReplyDeleteWhoops, I think I gave the wrong impression - we can't CHOOSE paperless over paper, our bills just automatically come one way or the other. We have paperless billing for our phones and apt. rent and internet - but they didn't exactly give us the choice, ha. (though we'd've taken it in a heartbeat) And our utility bills can't come any other way, because of the Korean system. So really, we only get 2 utility bills in the mail. Pretty good, Korea! *two thumbs up* Since the whole minimalism task was a non-thing, that's why we decided to organize instead. :D
