#21 Watch the Terminator movies

I guess you could say the Terminator movies almost fall into the "classic film" category, they've been so canonized into our lexicon and cultural consciousness. But somehow I had never watched them. Unfortunately, I did actually watch the most recent reboot ("Terminator: Genisys") before watching any of the originals, which was a very bizarre way to do it.

Survey says?: I had so much fun watching life breathed into lines I've quoted so many times. And you guys - I was so very behind! I knew so little! I was gobsmacked to discover that the terminator is BAD in the first movie. Obviously I knew "I'll be back" but had no idea of the hilarious context (what a moment!) Same with "hasta la vista."

Adam watched the first 2 with me, and swears that there's no reason for me to continue watching. Soooo, I'm saying NO to the crappy sequels and considering this one done!

Hobbitses!

****NOTE: This post was originally written up on Monday. I'd read 3 chapters of "The Hobbit" at that time. I finished the book on Wednesday without breaking a sweat. It's waaaay smaller than I remembered! I have no clue how they're going to stretch it out over 3 movies...*****

"The Hobbit: Part 1" comes out in theaters!

My friend Mary (check out her fabulous baking blog HERE) recently posted a Hobbit Challenge on her other blog (!blog), and I'm taking her up on it! I lucked out and found a copy of the Hobbit at the community center library downtown, so I'm speeding through it, hopefully in time for our Friday night date with 2 other couples.

Mary! It's the exact same copy... We both just read the GREATEST FANTASY EPIC OF OUR TIME.

UPDATE: Tonight's the night! There is a large group of foreigners poised to descend upon the movie theaters in Gwangju this evening for the beginning of another adventure in Middle Earth. It may not be the 48 frames-per-second version, and it probably won't have Smaug in it, AND I may have a cold today, but I'm still bouncing in my seat with impatience for this evening. See you at the theater...

Something simple

It's getting late, today's been a big day, tomorrow's going to be an even bigger and busier day --- These are all very excellent reasons to get a good night's sleep tonight, and I am going to listen to reason this time. Which means, dear readers, a short post this Monday.

I feel list-y.

4 movies that I've recently watched and liked:

"The Rabbit Hole" -- Tearjerker that merits every tear. Go see it.
"Howl's Moving Castle" -- Another gorgeous piece of animation from Mr. Miyazaki. Adam and I would rank it in our top three if "Totoro", "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke" weren't already there.
"True Grit" -- Good 'n' gritty. I enjoyed every second.
"The King's Speech" -- saw this at Christmas with the fam and was thoroughly charmed.

4 movie's I've seen recently and didn't really like:

"Pan's Labyrinth" -- I was so depressed after this movie, I think I worried Adam.
"Buried" -- we watched this too soon after Pan's Labyrinth, and I definitely worried Adam after this one was over. 
"The Damned United" -- it doesn't happen often that I skip the end of a film, but I could not get through this one. I could see exactly where the character was going, and I didn't want to go there with him.
"New York, I love you" -- we were hoping for something as quirky and unique as "Paris, je t'aime" and felt disappointed in this city's version.
