NaBloPoMo: Day 27 "Snowstormed"

It's not really a snowstorm, but I feel it might as well be one. Do you know how utterly unseemly it is to have a snowy thanksgiving, in this Georgia girl's mind? Very, very rudely unseemly.

I'm not ready for snow, yet!

This was made painfully obvious this evening when I discovered my warm boots have broken soles. A short walk from the bus to Meagan's door rendered both of my socks soaking wet.

Which made me cranky. It was just as bad - but worse! - than when you're walking around the house in socks and you step in a puddle of water. At least at home you can just go change your socks and clean up the water! If I could have cleaned up all this unseemly snow, believe me, I would have.

Grumble grumble.

Ok, done complaining! Now on to the good stuff: IT'S SNOWING YOU GUYZ!! ZOMG.

Meagan and I mcgyver'ed some dry toes for me going home.

Adam's getting his first Mac computer in a couple days (his Lenovo sadly gave up the ghost this past week)!

Tomorrow's Thanksgiving AND a rest day from my challenges!

Broken boots means it's time to get some new boots!

Life is good, Carpe November!

P.s. Squats, CHECK.
Abs, incomplete. :( Guess tomorrow's not a rest day after all. Sigh.
Minimalism, incomplete. I regret nothing. Quality time with friends is important too! But seriously today's challenge is something I've already mastered: find a home for every item and make sure it goes back to its home when you're done with it.

True story: tonight Adam was racking up points for the Best Husband Ever award and putting away the laundry.
However I had to remind him about homes. "My socks don't live with your socks. My ankle socks have a separate house from my long socks, which have a separate drawer from my tights...." I'm  the reigning queen for having a home for everything! In fact the only things that don't have homes (that I can think of) are our purse/satchels. But we usually hang them on a chair or set them on the futon until the next day when we haul them with us again.

Callerahdough

Well, now these posts are totally out of order. (Grmbl. Me no like.)

Before the fabulous New Orleans Christmas events began to take place (see post below), Adam and I spent a few gorgeous and hilarity-packed days in Colorado, visiting parents, brother and friends.

One of the highlights of this trip was definitely our gift from Beth, Adam's long-time friend: she surprised us with a long, snowy drive out to Hot Sulfur Springs, where we lazed around in deliciously hot pools while snowflakes gently fell on our heads and shoulders.  *Magical*

They didn't fall on my head, though - I wore a hat.  I also wore boots, a coat and a towel for the trips from one hot pool to another. I looked like a weenie next to Adam and Beth, but I was warm. And happy. :)

We all hiked into the mountains one day to scatter the ashes of Becky, their dog who had been in the family for many, many years. Rest in Peace, Becky.

Clouds below mountains - Magnifique!

No wet, no cold, no exposed skin

Waterfall, mineral-coated rock walls, happy bathers

Inside  a hotHOT tiny natural crevice of sulfur water

I think the other highlight of the trip for me - quality time with family aside, as it always trumps everything else - was playing the Wii Fit at Mom Janzou's house.

That stuff is addictive. But FYI, it's totally biased toward people who are good at video games. I've got pretty stellar balance until you put me on a little white boogie-board thing and ask me to dodge virtual shoes and ski slalom poles and river drop-offs.

But seriously, if you haven't goofed around on a Wii before, you should try it. And then buy one. And then invite me over to play with you.

Breaking news : I have a new power cord for my laptop! And our vacation is over! Which means ... Blog posts again!!

(Listens for applause from Womack Court and Airport Blvd)

(Hears thunderous applause and is gratified)

Taking the good with the bad

The BAD news: Yesterday, somewhere between the Wal-mart in Evergreen, CO and the Safeway grocery store in Idaho Springs, CO I lost my cell phone. And while it may be true that I was planning on ending my service before Korea anyway, losing it completely was NOT the plan. And I realize that this shouldn't be a big deal, since I will be able to get a nice, swanky one in Korea, and anyone who wants or needs to contact me has my email address, but for some reason it feels like a very big deal. Probably because I have no idea how I lost it, and I am usually very good about keeping track of my stuff (and Adam's stuff!). Even when I lose something, I usually know when and where it happened.

So: I. Am. Frustrated.
AARRRRRG.

The angst carried over into my dreams last night: I was carrying a big white coat on a hanger as I walked through some stores, and then suddenly it just wasn't there. I kept saying to the store clerks, "this doesn't make any sense! Maybe someone stole the coat from me! It can't have just disappeared! That doesn't make any sense!" I don't know why my subconscious traded my cell phone for a white coat, but there you have it. :)

The GOOD news: Up until the cell phone fiasco, Adam and I had a g l o r i o u s day yesterday! My eyes have been determinedly scouring the mountainous countryside every time we go anywhere hoping to catch a glimpse of some elk. Last time I was in CO, there was a small herd climbing a mountain right beside the highway, so I have been very hopeful. And unsuccessful until yesterday: After stuffing ourselves with some fabulous pizza at Beaujo's, we went for a walk through Elk Meadow Park (which seemed like a good idea for someone desperate to see some elk), and VOILA!

ELK!:

BIG OL' ELK PRINT!:

On the walk back from our dee-lightful elk encounter, I was so jubilant, I had to make a snow angel:

Not bad, eh?

All in all, a very good day. ...Just don't try calling me any time soon!
